What is reclaimed wood?

Reclaimed wood is old wood that has been repurposed for new projects. Common examples include pallet wood, fence planks and flooring boards that are recycled and used for furniture, wall paneling and decor items.

Reclaimed wood has an incredible character that distinguishes it from other materials. It’s not uncommon for reclaimed wood to look naturally distressed thanks to years in the sun or heavy use. Old reclaimed wood is also incredibly strong and durable and as a result makes a great material for repurposing.

Example of reclaimed wood interior design

What is a reclaimed wood ceiling fan?

A reclaimed wood ceiling fan is any fan with blades made of reclaimed wood or a material that mimics the look of reclaimed wood. Distressed wood fan blade finishes are a great example of the style.

Unfortunately, most ceiling fans do not use real wood for their fan blades as the industry has moved on to using more economic materials such as ABS, plywood and metal. Some of these materials are less likely to warp and have much better moisture resistance than real wood while other materials are much more cost-effective. This means that finding a real wood ceiling fan, let alone a reclaimed wood ceiling fan, is a tougher task than you may think.

The good news is that it’s easier than ever to get that distressed wood finish now that ceiling fan brands are catering to rustic, farmhouse, and industrial decor that uses reclaimed wood as a staple to the aesthetic.
